Everyday, we seek to better understand the problems businesses are facing and we bring those into our greenhouse of ideas. Then, we iterate with rapid prototyping. We talk with customers across the world to validate our ideas—no futile innovations allowed.

When we know our ideas are true solutions—truly solving the problems stunting the commercial environment—we invest in them and get them to market at scale.

And through our NCR University Hiring program, we partner with top universities to find and welcome new talent from all over the world, giving them an exciting jump start on their dream careers while helping shape the future of banking and commerce.

Every year, we welcome hundreds of summer interns to our locations around the world who lend their best ideas and creativity as they work to solve real-world customer challenges. In 2020, we had more than 800 virtual interns  from Atlanta and Dallas, the United States; Dundee, Scotland; Hyderabad, India; and Waterloo, Canada.

Innovation is part of our DNA. That’s why, every year, NCR hosts internal hackathons and sponsors external ones like HackGT, one of the premier university Hackathons in the country. During the 48-hour event, more than 1,800 students built innovative solutions to a variety of problems – including using NCR's own technology to keep commerce running.

Our Innovation lab is focused on:

  • Finding the right problems to solve
  • Designing potential solutions for those problems
  • Prototyping the solutions and then
  • Using the tangible prototypes in pilot environments to evaluate the solutions.
  • The results of these pilots inform NCR's opinion about the perceived customer value, business case and whether to continue to iterate or halt experiments that produce valuable insights but not a viable product or service.
